Hands on! is Beaux Arts community outreach program designed to introduce area youths to the world of art.

The Hands on! program enables fourth and fifth grade students from four to five different Title 1 elementary schools to visit the Lowe Art Museum during the school year free of charge.  In addition, Beaux Arts pays for the cost of bus transportation from the schools to the museum.

Our program this year is entitled “Revisiting the Renaissance” with an emphasis on Renaissance art works.  During the field trips, Lowe Art Museum docents guide tours in two areas of the museum, a story is read about Renaissance life and the Hands on! committee coordinates a related craft in the Children’s Pavilion.

We generally handle approximately 80 children split into 4 groups. The groups move through the program in a round robin fashion spending 30 minutes in each of the four segments.

The Hands on! committee sets up and cleans up the craft materials in the Children’s Pavilion, and has fun helping the students making their craft.  We also provide a snack of ginger snaps and juice.

Hands on! field trips are usually held once a month on Tuesday mornings from 9am to 12:30 pm.
